The PSB Scholarship Awards

Simpson Manufacturing Company is committed to education – both of its employees and their families. The PSB Scholarship awards provide scholarships for dependent children of our employees in the United States and Canada.

It is a pleasure to announce that there are 14 new recipients of Simpson PSB Scholarships for 2010. As well, there are 24 renewals for students who received their initial reward in 2007-2009. To date, the program has awarded $1,017,500 in scholarships.

Congratulations to the 2010 recipients:

Carrie Busha – Carrie's father, Terry, is the branch controller in McKinney, Texas. She is a junior at Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas, with a major in Biblical studies. Carrie is a volunteer with the youth and music ministries at Lakeview Baptist Church.


Abigail Crosser – McKinney anchor sales rep, Robert Crosser is Abigail's father. She is a recent graduate of Myers Park High School in Charlotte, North Carolina and will be entering the University of South Carolina in Columbia as a business major. Abigail was a state finalist at the state-level DECA competition in the hospitality event. She enjoys lifeguarding and babysitting.


Stephanie Dankel – Stephanie is the daughter of Roger Dankel, McKinney's branch sales manager. She graduated from McKinney Boyd High School and will be attending Clemson University in the fall. Her major field of study is biomedical engineering. Stephanie was a Texas state soccer finalist. Her interests include church, the environment, and reading.


Elka DelPortal – Columbus employee services administrative assistant, Cesar DelPortal is Elka's father. She attended Thomas Worthington High School in Worthington, Ohio and will be attending Ohio State University in Columbus as a pre-med student. Elka is a member of the Spanish National Honor Society and is involved in community service at the Capital Area Humane Society.


Samantha DelPortalk – Another of Cesar Del Portal'sdaughters is Samantha, twin sister to Elka. She is also a graduate of Thomas Worthington High School, but has chosen the University of California at Santa Barbara where she will be studying economics and accounting. She too volunteers at the Capital Area Humane Society and was President of the Spanish National Honor Society.


Johnny Ding – Johnny's father is home office engineer, Frank Ding. A recent graduate of Amador Valley High School in Pleasanton, Johnny will be entering the University of California at Santa Barbara studying economics and accounting. He is a personal tutor, participates in cross country, track and field, volunteers at a senior home and is involved in school business.


Michael Hammontree – Michael is a graduate of Frisco High School in Frisco, Texas, and the son of McKinney's sales administration manager, Mardi Hammontree. He will enter the University of Texas at Austin studying architectural engineering. He was the 3rd place state conference winner and national qualifier for Business Professionals of America (BPA) in visual basic programming, and attended the national competition.


Amanda Medina – Stockton's Ted Medina is Amanda's father. She is a former PSB scholarship winner while attending Cal State University East Bay for her undergraduate degree. She graduated in 2009 and will be returning to Cal State's graduate program to continue her studies in public administration. She was president of her sorority, Greek female leader of the year in 2007 & 2008, and is working full time as an operations manager for a communications company. She enjoys playing basketball and working out.


Mary Morrison – Mary is the daughter of Jacksonville warehouse manager, Dave Morrison. She attended Paxon School for Advanced Studies and was 1st runner up and most talented in the 2009 Miss Paxon Pageant, along with being 2010 homecoming queen. Mary will be attending Florida State University in Tallahassee as a biology major. She is captain of the dance competition team and an assistant dance teacher at Dynamics Dance.


Kaitlynn O'Keefe – Columbus administrative assistant, Rachael Maxwell is Kaitlynn's mother. She is in her second year at Ohio State University and will be studying nursing at the main campus in Columbus. She has been the treasurer of the student activities board.

Grethel Pallaviccini – Grethel is the daughter of Vacaville's Saul Pallaviccini and is attending the University of California at Davis. She is finishing her undergraduate studies as a senior majoring in nutrition science. After graduating next June she plans to apply to medical school for graduate studies. She currently is a volunteer at Kaiser Permanente and is a nutritionist intern at Davis Community Care Clinic. She is interested in working with a non-profit organization after graduating to serve underdeveloped communities while pursuing her career in medicine.


Victoria Simons – Victoria will be off to Biola University in the fall as a freshman studying English. She is the daughter of Tawn Simons, home office manager of new product development. Victoria is a graduate of Liberty High School in Brentwood, California and has been actively involved as president of Christian Club, secretary of the band, church leadership and small groups, choir and drama. She loves to write and sing.


Bethany Stercho – Columbus territory manager, Doug Stercho, is Bethany's father. She graduated from Hempfield High School in Greensburg, Pennsylvania and will be a graphic design major at LaRoche College in Pittsburgh. She received a merit scholarship from LaRoche College, is a member of the National Honor Society, and enjoys ballroom dancing, horseback riding, art, photography and computer design.


Kayla Tullos – Kayla is the daughter of Debbie Tullos, VP of purchasing. She is a junior at Texas Tech University in Lubbock studying environmental/civil engineering. She is a member of ASCE as community service chair, Gamma Beta Phi, National Society of Collegiate Scholars-Texas Tech Division, and a recipient of the CE Academy scholarship. Her interests are in wind power and water filtration.
