Simpson Manufacturing Company is committed to education – both of its employees and their families. The PSB Scholarship awards provide scholarships for dependent children of our employees in the United States and Canada.
Since its 1998 inception, the PSB Scholarship Program has awarded 167 scholarships. To date, a total of $1,116,250 has been awarded through the program, with 15 new recipients and 25 renewals this year.
Congratulations to the 2011 recipients:
Max Angelo – is the son of Stockton's customer service supervisor, Donette Angelo. He is a graduate of Manteca High School where he was involved with Future Business Leaders Association and was a junior ambassador in the Manteca Chamber of Commerce. He played varsity tennis and won the "All City" title. Max's interests include music of all kinds, basketball, fishing and golfing. He will be attending California State University at Chico studying business and construction management.
Maida Louise Caoile – Maida is the daughter of Mildred Gorman who works in the Home Office accounting department. She will be a senior at San Jose State University and her major is in nursing. She has volunteered for the food basket and park clean-up, participated in a psychology experiment workshop, attended Shamrock Showcase and Leadership Workshop and is registered for the Women's Nike Half Marathon.
Melissa Cervantez – Stockton plant superintendent, Tony Cervantez is Melissa's father. She is a former PSB Scholarship winner while attending San Diego State University for her undergraduate degree. She is returning to San Diego State to continue her studies in psychology. Her interest is in behavioral and cognitive neuroscience. Melissa works as a research assistant and teaching assistant for the psychology department.
Kimberly Hagel – is the daughter of Gerry Hagel, VP of Concrete Chemicals. She will be attending Albion College in Albion, Michigan where she was accepted to the British Horse Society Training Program. She will complete this training while pursuing her degree in marine biology. Kimberly is an Illinois State Scholar and was a top French senior. She is a recent graduate of Glenbard East High School in Lombard, Illinois.
David Juarez – Home Office business support manager, Yurie Pauls is David's mother. He graduated from Heritage High School in PSB Scholarships Awarded to 15 Students by Virginia Smith Brentwood, California and will be attending California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, California majoring in business. David is in the National Honor Society, is an Eagle Scout and plays football.
Jack Lawson – Jack is the son of David Lawson, Home Office national accounts system manager. He graduated from Dublin High School in Dublin, California and will be attending the University of Notre Dame where he will study business. He has been a member of men's varsity tennis and was #1 singles player and team captain. He tutors an average of 5 students weekly in math. He was an advanced placement scholar with honors. Jack plays guitar and piano, including composition.
Brenna Mailey – Columbus information/seminar manager, Jim Mailey is Brenna's father. She will be going to Temple University in Philadelphia where she will major in education and minor in French. She graduated from Plymouth Whitemarsh High School in Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania. Brenna works as a tutor for grade school students and has done an internship in a 2nd grade classroom. She enjoys ice skating and art – drawing in particular.
Caitlin Mailey – another of Jim's daughters is Caitlin, Brenna's twin sister. Also a graduate of Plymouth Whitemarsh High School, Caitlin will be attending the University of Pittsburgh and like her sister, major in education. She has interned with a kindergarten class and volunteered at activities sponsored by the Rotary Club. Caitlin is a dance teacher at Addicted 2 Dance Company, captain of a competition team and has won numerous 1st place awards at dance competitions.
Jacob McPheters – is the son of Jerry McPheters, a utility operator at the Columbus plant. Jacob was the valedictorian of his class at Dublin Scioto High School in Dublin, Ohio. In addition to graduating with honors, he participated in a school charity dodge ball event and is employed at the Wedgewood Country Club. He's off to Ohio State in Columbus to major in professional golf management.
Ashley Pease – McKinney's accounts payable department is where Ashley's mother, Rachel Pease works. Ashley will be studying biology at Collin College in Plano, Texas. She is a recent graduate of McKinney North High School where she was North Star of the Year and a member of the National Honor Society. She received the Rotary Club Academic Excellence Award. Her activities include being a drill team captain, dance and she works at Best Buy.
Jacob Pugmire – Jacob's father is Stockton territory sales representative, Gary Pugmire. Jacob graduated from West Jordan High School where he was a part of his school choirs and received perfect scores at State as well as Heritage Festival competitions. He completed two senior projects in liberal arts and technology. He received both a music and academic letter. Jacob will be attending Salt Lake Community College majoring in drafting and architecture.
Austin Simons – is the son of Tawn Simons, Home Office manager of new product development. He will be attending Biola University in Southern California studying engineering. He attended Liberty High School in Brentwood, California where he earned a National Honor Society life membership. He was involved with "Music in the Parks" and "Magic Music Days with Disney" and is in training for a mission to Montevideo, Uruguay this summer.
Samantha Simpkins – Stockton branch sales manager, Dave Simpkins is Samantha's father. She will be studying pre-med at the University of California, Santa Barbara. While at Liberty High School in Brentwood, California, she was an honor roll student, involved in leadership, ASB Vice President, played varsity basketball for 3 years, and has a job as well.
Sivahini Sivalingam – is the daughter of Brampton's warehouseman, Sivalingam Ratnasabapathy. Seneca College in Toronto is Sivahini's destination where she will major in opticianry. She is a graduate of Harold M. Brathwaite Secondary School in Brampton, Ontario where she was on the honor roll throughout high school and participated in many leadership activities. Sivahini enjoys reading and listening to music.
Ashley Weethee – Both of Ashley's parents work for Simpson in Columbus – Tiffany in purchasing, and Jim in tool & die. Ashley will be going to Capital University in Columbus where she will be majoring in nursing. She attended Hilliard Davidson High School in Hilliard, Ohio where she won the Archie Griffin Sportsmanship award. She received OCC Honorable Mention and played both varsity soccer and basketball.
